More specifics on my 5 year plan. 2 years ago

First, property. I want to purchase some rental/investment properties and land in other areas. The land would be for when I retire. The investment properties would be for a long term investment.

Second, finish my degree and get school out of my life. :)

Third, increase my income. I need to decide between another job, and additional job, or ?? to make this happen.

Fourth, I want to keep fit. I find that participating in competitive sports is the best way for me to stay in shape. Ideally I want an exercise area at my house. The garage is the most logical area for this but it’s so cold in the winter in the garage…

Fifth, I am not going to live forever so I need to focus on accomplishing goals on this list. I need to schedule some of these goals into my life instead of just saying that I will do them someday. This year, I am thinking that I want to kayak the Green River, and go to Pecos. It would be great to take 4 nice vacations this year. I’d also like to go to Hawai’i, and go on a bicycle tour. This is possible if I plan my time.

My 5 Year Plan 3 years ago

needs to include saving money. How much? $10K/year besides what I am putting in my SRA?
It needs to include something about work, in terms of being at a certain level at work by then. Manager 2?

There needs to be something about my fitness and health. School is covered with finishing my Ph.D.

So what else is there? New hobbies? Complete a major goal for sports that I do now? Go someplace I have dreamed about? Change some major habit? I’ll ponder these.

I definitely need a more focused plan. 3 years ago

I am starting with the clean and organized home (thank you, Flylady) and more time to enjoy friends and hobbies. I am starting to implement Flylady routines but I find myself trying to play catchup. Once the house is decluttered, I will hire a housekeeper to assist me with the tasks. That will leave time for part 2, enjoying my hobbies and spending time with friends.

A party is in order. I’m thinking sometime in August or September. Hobbies also need some attention. And I have to work school into this plan.

My goal is to start implementing my plan by August (I have my reasons). So I have until then to define it.

How detailed does a plan have to be? 3 years ago

Probably more than what I have written so far. I don’t think I have written a plan as much as I have outlined goals. So my plan should be to have my own business, my Ph.D. and property for my retirement home. It should also include things like enjoying life, having a clean and organized home and hobbies that I have the time (and energy) to participate in. I also want to be fit and healthy.

This is still too vague but it’s a bit better than my first list.

I'm borrowing another goal. 3 years ago

It is to take stock of my life at the end of every month. This needs to be a subgoal of having a 5 year plan so I know if I am on track or not.

February, 2006:

School is not going as well as I would like. I’ve been overwhelmed with work and home life. The quarter finishes at the end of March so I’d better get cracking on my work.

I have not been to N.M. to look at property even though my friend keeps calling me and telling me about porperty in the area that is for sale.

I’ll say that I am making progress on this only because I am putting money away but I don’t have a plan of how much I need or how I am ogoing to live.

Take a trip? This may be the hardest thing on my list as I want to be gone for a few months. This won’t happen for 6 months at least.

So, I am not making any real progress on my 5 year plan so far.

Perhaps this will focus my goals 3 years ago

My 5 year plan includes:

finishing my Ph.D.
buying property somewhere for a retirement home
starting my own business – what TBD
establishing a retirement plan
taking a long trip
