I now want to reach 100 loans by 2010. I love Kiva. I love reading the stories of people who have dreams and are working towards accomplishing those dreams. It reminds me that there are so many opportunities to do good in this world.
Go to kiva.com and see what I am talking about.

So I got sidetracked and missed my original date by two weeks. That’s OK with me. I just made 4 Kiva loans which has brought my total number of loans to 50! Yippee. This is one goal that I have total control over (yes, you could argue that I have total control over almost all of my goals but…)
Thanks to Mary Hawkins for letting me know that the money that is repaid is now available to reloan as soon as it is paid. This means more chances to reloan.
I love Kiva – doing good without ever leaving my house.

to make 50 loans by August 18th. :) I’m well on my way since I currently have made 40 loans. 10 more shouldn’t be too hard (though
I just reloaned all the money that had been paid back). 8 weeks, 10 loans. I can do it.

I had four loans get repaid, so I loaned out most of the money on three new loans. I try to loan to older people, who have worked hard much of their lives, and don’t have the comfort of a retirement system like I have. I can’t imagine having to work my entire life in order to survive. We count down the years until we can retire and many of these people will work long past my retirement age.

When I get frustrated or angry, I can go to kiva.org and do something positive that makes me feel better. That’s a good feeling and it’s just so easy to do.
I’ll make some more loans later this week. And most of the loans I have made are being paid back!!!
Awesome.

I find that this goal makes me feel like I am helping the world be a better place for people. I get that feeling from work at times but this goal really hits the spot.
I just made 2 more loans of $50:
Lisa Sefo
Jenny Vaoga
This is so much more rewarding then spending the money on myself.

$25 is not that much. So after I made my last loan I started thinking about how much money I had spent yesterday and what I spent it on:
Petrol $30
Vet $100
Amazon books $75
I decided that I could afford to make a few more loans. And when I start reading peoples’ stories, it’s hard to stop!
So I loaned to a couple who make $8/day between the two of them! $8 a DAY! How long would it take them to save the money they need for the loan? Years.
So I made loans to Yous Chanta because I can’t fathom how hard it would be to live on $8 a day anywhere in the world.
Pedro Jimenez because he went thru training and has a business plan.
Velia Narvaez Martinez because I have eaten in businesses like hers around the world.

Taxes really took a big bite out of my pay this year, so I haven’t made a loan for a few paydays. :(
I just went over to the site and made a loan to Mary Ahia
It was only $25, but it still feels nice to help someone out.

This is really addictive. I found a few people to loan to and then I.E. crashed! I lost two of my original people I wanted to loan money. Darn. One lady lives in a slum in Kenya and wanted a loan to help build her store. Having travelled to countries where people are trying to improve their situation under very difficult situations, I am glad to be able to help someone with something I have an excess of (money), to combine with their energy and imagination.
I can hardly wait until my next payday!!!

I made 2 loans to people in Samoa. I admit that I enjoy reading the stories of what people have gone through, and what they hope to accomplish. It is so inspiring!
