acknowledge when people have done nice things

When I first put this on my list, it was intended to get me to write to people and thank them when they did nice things. I am not much of a writer. Instead I have been thanking people in person, which may make them a bit uncomfortable at the time. Most people appreciate the acknowledgement. This goal is long overdue.

I am compiling a list of people who I need to thank for doing nice things this past year.

Get moving on this!!!

The website had some stores in the area which carried the garlic juice. The first store was out. The second store had one bottle left. The guy who I was talking to on the phone put the juice away for me without my even asking! I got to the store about an hour later and asked for the juice. Out of the 4 people behind the counter I was talking to the guy who had answered the phone. I am a happy customer. They will get more of my money in the future.

It was a great Italian deli in Glendale. Reminded me of Europe. I did buy some groceries since I was there. :)

A group of people worked hard to accomplish this goal. While others may not appreciate the significance of this goal, you do and that is all that matters. Celebrate the accomplishment and acknowledge their part in the achievement.

to thank some people for some work they did for me on a very tight schedule. We had fun, and while the conversation did lack at times, I think everyone enjoyed the company and getting away from work. It was my lunch (my idea, my thanks) so I ended up being “in charge”. That was OK. I guess I need to work on topics of conversation as I had four shy/introverted people with me. Still, I had fun.

It was Administrators’ Day (or week, I don’t know which) so I took our support staff at work out to lunch. We had fun, even if Gloria’s tooth broke during lunch. :( That kind of put a damper on things, but we did have a nice lunch and did a little shopping.

I’ll try again another time.

My favorite people (John and Lynn) hosted a work party last night. It was for a project that was cancelled nearly two years ago, but the team that was formed still has very strong bonds. We ordered take out, and had good company, and good wine. I enjoyed seeing them again since the last time we were together was New Year’s.

The party didn’t last very late mainly because people were working today and John and Lynn are also hosting another work party tonight for some big shots from NASA HQ. How do they do it???

this is to thank all the people who helped out during the L.A. Marathon. That means all the volunteers, all the spectators cheering us along the route, the police who managed traffic, and the participants who made the day worthwhile.

This was my 6th marathon – all L.A. I didn’t like the new route since we went thru lots of industrial areas but I did see a friend who I met 3 years ago at the marathon. And I made some new friends. I walked the route and spent 3 hours walking with Tommy Hall after we met at mile 13. He was great company for the afternoon. Positive, funny, happy, and encouraging me when I wanted to slow down or take a break. We even managed to run the last several hundred yards (which may have been a mistake consdiering the state of my feet and his energy level). But we finished together, which was my goal for the day.

It was a tough marathon, lots of people dropping out and lots of medical vehicles on the course. That was tough, watching people who had dropped out after making it 22-24 miles. We tried to encourage people but we could only do so much.

But once again, it was the people who made the event worthwhile. The smiles from participants when we were struggling, the cheering from volunteers and spectators, and the great support at the finish line.

I tried to thank many people along the route but I couldn’t thank everyone. So this entry is my attempt to say “thank you” to everyone who made yesterday a great day. And my thanks to anyone reading this who has ever volunteered at a race. Without you, we couldn’t finish.

It’s our special day in Pasadena since it’s January first and the Rose parade is today. One couple let us park in their driveway, very close to the parade route. Another couple hosted a major party in their front yard so we could watch the parade. It was GREAT! The weather was fine – blue sky and quite pleasant in the sun. The parade was excellent – nice floats and good bands. Of course the flyover of the stelth bomber was awesome!! It’s so unreal and I am really glad that it was a friendly flyover. We had a fun time and it was all due to my friends being willing to share their houses with friends for the day.

I am making a subgoal of going to lunch twice a month with people I want to thank. I work with a lot of great people, who have done a lot to help me out over the years. 2007 will be my year to work on strengthening my networks. Lunch twice a month is achievable. This will give me something to look forward to at work and help me work less and play more (goal 23).

January has one lunch scheduled. I’ll add a lunch with Lynn, because she is a fantastic person, and I always enjoy talking with her. Maybe I’ll even toss in one more lunch to make the month more enjoyable.
