The biggest issue is my laziness. I need to put time into my appearance. I’m worth it, it will make me feel better about myself, so I just need to do it. Easier said than done. This goal will have many subgoals:
1. Changing the way I present my hair. I’m black with my natural hair, and while I love it and don’t ever plan to relax, I also don’t put any effort into keeping it healthy and pretty. I need to do more. I don’t like restricting my hair in braids or hair ties, but leaving it open is recipe for disaster because I haven’t figure out the recipe for keeping it pretty and manageable. I need to put time into my hair, use the products that are made specifically for it, find the correct methods for straightening or defining my curls without causing damage.
2. Buy better quality clothes and take care of them. I throw everything in the washing machine, whether or not it needs to be dry-cleaned. So I lose a lot of clothes to fading or bleeding (my white shirts are now pink – I don’t separate the colors either, Oh the humanity!!!). I know the quality is as important as the care so it’s time I go by the rule that quality is better than quantity.
3. Wear more dresses. I actually love dresses. No one would know this because I’m always in pants. I love to see very feminine women, that’s what I want to be, so I need to make make the effort to wear more dresses.
4. Wear subtle, natural-looking makeup every time I go out. I also like a well-made face. Natural is great but not truly me and now that I have all the knowledge I need regarding make-up I need to use it more often.
5. Take care of my body beyond exercise. This means shaving/waxing when I need to, using only the products that don’t aggravate my skin, drinking enough water to keep my skin hydrated, pampering myself with spa treatments every now and then, just taking care of myself so I don’t look and feel like a hot mess.
