I finally got a slate and stylus. The reading wasn’t doing too well since I’m too lazy to look up the contractions I don’t remember. : ) So I figure if I make it more interactive and start writing braille it might be easier to learn. The slate I got was the size of a 4×6 card and cost about $7 including a stylus. Its really worth it. I’m going to take it to some classes and try to braille some of my notes.

I’ve been trying to learn braille for two years now but I keep getting distracted. I can sight read the braille, its the reading by touch that’s difficult. And the contractions… Reading braille is just like learning to read print. I have to sound everything out letter by letter and put it together into words. Right now, I’m reading through my favorite book ‘The Tale of Despereaux’. It easier because I know it almost word for word, so if I have trouble with a word, I can usually guess what it is. A real pain, but I think it will be worth it.
