Hindus call it Kailash, Mount Meru by historians, Tise by the Bons and Tibetan Buddhists, and Astapada by the Jains.
The name might change, but the importance doesn’t. The 4 religions mentioned above all identify at as the holiest site in the world.
Some pilgrims circle it in a few days, others a few weeks. Others power through it in one day using a special breathing technique called Lung-gom. Still others perform non-stop prostrations the entire distance around. It is said that circling the mountain 108 times guarantees future enlightenment. That to me sounds like good incentive!!
Nearby there is a mountain lake named Manasavora. I once had a dream that I was at a mountain lake, and I am fairly certain it was this lake. I also plan to visit there too. I feel like this is my life’s new purpose. But if its destiny, its neither new nor old. Something is calling me there. Is it Shiva? One of the Boddhisattvas said to inhabit the Lake? My own yearning for enlightenment or perhaps my own demise? I don’t know. Time won’t tell—I will.
