learn polish

Right so I’m just about finnished the Pimsluer course. I have found it an excellent way to study around my work etc.

I have booked into a Polish course in Krakow, it starts in mid April, so in a weeks time I will be flying over there and starting the next stage of my studys :) Cant wait!!!!!

The two week course sound good http://www.polishsummer.com/index.htm and includes alot of culture type things ie visits to an old village with handmade polish foods etc. Also a trip to Zakopane which is a winter sports resort up in the mountains, they have cinema trips to see polish films etc and also various sightseeing tours + night time trips to pubs and jazz concerts.

All sounds great, will report back in a few weeks with my findings.

Ok so, I’ve been listening to the Pimsluer stuff for a few weeks now, and I’m so impressed with it that I had gone online and downloaded the full 30 lession set. It only cost me about 120-130 Euro, but its well worth it!

The lessions are in simple 30 min sections, I’m not that good at it so I listen to each of them three to four times before I proceed to the next one. My Polish has improved in leaps and bounds since I started.

It works for me anyway, I would recomend it to anyone starting out in Polish, I’m at lession 9 of 30 at the mo and I cant wait to get to the end.

I got a copy of Pimsluer Polish I, It breaks down the course into ten 30 min audio lessions. I have only had a chance to listen to the first one. I like the way it breaks the words down for me. I understood nearly all of lession one already but it was handy anyway because it helps with the pronunciation etc.

I will use this course along with the other stuff I have and I’m optimistic :)

I got deep into some Polish study today, was going great but then I hit “Noun cases” ..... Agh there are 7 grammatical cases!!!

Vocative

We don’t have these in english! Started to panic a little but continued on. Later I was on the internet (looking for help) and I came accross “the Pimsleur Approach”. Its an american thing so I looked it up on ebay and in a moment of weakness I ended up buying it! It was only 30-40 odd Euro including delivery.
The website claims that its mega, it will do this and that and the FBI and others use it to learn etc. We’ll see! Cant be all that bad tho, and for 40 odd euro agh feckit!
It will take a week to be delivered so I will just have to wait and see!

Converted a Polish CD to mp3 today and spent a few hours listening to it, most of it went in one ear and out the other BUT I do believe some of it stayed in there :)
Progress will be slow but I will get there eventually!

It’s all those ch’s and sh’s every second word, its an excercise program for my mouth.

I have bought two or three books on learning polish. I start off reading them and half way down the page my mind is off on some other plannet, or thinking about the price of fuel in Ireland or the tv programe I watched last week! Anything and anywhere just not on the subject at hand! Grrr need to concentrate more on the subject at hand!
