Red Cap 2 years ago

Overall I guess this show was a little slow and dull.
But hey, it was a musical about Mt Isa. sheesh.
I ended up interested because I just couldn’t believe that the state I live in could act so domineering.
- Declaring a Police State and being able to randomly raid houses, confiscate printing materials, and basically be moral-free assfaces. Incredible. And all because these guys wanted an extra $4 a week.

Hamlet, Last Five Years and Siren's Kiss 2 years ago

3 posts in one.
Hamlet – was awesome. The Shakespearian language was easy to follow and the acting was amazing. Mucho funno.

The Last Five Years was a musical about a marriage. The woman (played by Nim) started at the end of the relationship and moved backwards, the man started from the start. They met briefly in the middle for the wedding.
Was really great. The songs were really fun and sometimes even terrifyingly sad.

Saw Siren’s Kiss last night. It was a rehearsed read-through of the Sven Swenson play (who had asked Dajh to be in it might I add! – he couldn’t though). It was also a musical, but this time a tongue-in-cheek Noir, gangster, whodunit. Was h.i.l.l.a.r.i.o.u.s. The sexual nintendo’s were in every second sentence.
“He’s 6 foot 8.”
“Hey that’s my man!”
“You can keep the 6 feet…”
So rude. All the time. It was great.

Yay for Brisbane theatre being good!!

The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged 2 years ago

It really was a Frank Woodley production. Very much like the old “Lano and Woodley” shows, where you’re not sure what is scripted or a legitimate mistake.
Shakespeare has never been so much fun.
The whole play is based around grabbing all 37 of Shakespeares plays, condensing them, and then making fun of them where ever possible. Awesome.

The Narcissist at La Boite 2 years ago

Tuesday night brought with it my first theatre show in FAR too long. La Boite’s Narcissist. (Which is a funny title cos the main character was self-obsessed… not so much Narcissistic…)
It was good. Fun. A little bit clever. Wonderfully Australian, but without be too “Australiana” (eg wonderfully Kidman without being too Irwin).
The best was after intermission when all these random lies started unfolding and one of the characters ran around like a detective solving the mysteries left right and centre. Very satisfying.

Certainly not the greatest theatre I’ve ever seen. But I’m glad I went.
