-My first year of flute playing. I will start off in the first month playing about 30min a day, at the begginging of the month, and by the end of Jan 2h a day. Also I plan on taking half hour weekly lessons until summer. By the second month I will have a easier schedule and thus be able to play the flute more, around 3-4h a day by Feb 10. When march roles around I plan on playing 5-6h a day. During the summer I would like to double the length of my flute tutor lessons to 1h a week; longer lessons will help me improve faster. The summer time will also give me tons of time to practice, probably around 8-10h a day. When september roles around Im off to college, while there I will only be able to do 2-4h a day highly dependent on my school work load. Durning thanksgiving and winter break however I will be able to do 5-8h a day again.
-In my second year of playing from Jan till june I will only be able to do 2-4h a day due to school. Durring the summer however Ill be right back to 8h a day. By the end of summer however I will start looking at music schools like Berklee, Juliard and other conservitorys. I will apply around Oct and Nov but have schedule my music adition for Jan or Feb of 2014; this allows for more practice time and time to prepare.
- In my third year, I expect to be good enough to get in to a music school with the flute therefore this is when I will do all my aditions. I will apply to at least 10 schools too best increase my chance of getting in. Once again however, from Jan till June I will only beable to practice 2-4h a day, untill summer where I plan on doing 8-10 now. When school starts and I go to the music school I will already have my basics out of the way so ill will be able to devote 5h of practice plus in class practice. This will also be th timeI get to join an ensemble.
- By my fourth year My skills should be caught up with thoes who have been playing casually since they were 7 years old. My daily practice time a day will be 4-5 hours until summer, where I should expect to spend 8-12h of focused study a day to prepare for my final year. My final year will still leave me cramed for time though so my daily practice will remain at 4-5h or less, since during my final year I want to get as much orchestra experiance as possible.
- During my fifth year my flute skills should be at a minnimal orchestral level, but not nearly good enough to get the job. So once I graduate from school I plan on teaching flute through private instruction, and I will advertise myself through youtube and its kin to get my name and talent out to the world. I will also continue to practice for 4-8 hours a day.
- my sixth year will be a year of continued private instruction and practice to build my skills up.
- Finnaly my seventh year. By this point my skills WILL be good enough to apply to orchestras. I will and get a spot in one in Oregon, Washington,B.C,Alaska, or Idaho partly to stay clos to home and partly to for the climate. However, Ill go as far away as need be to get a spot on an orchestra.
and forward- Once I’m in the orchestra the skys the limit, but to be honest I wouldbe perfectly content living out my days simply playing great music.
Some extra notes- The reason that I start out playing for far less than 8h is because my focus needs to be honed, otherwise 8h of practice would be 8h of potentialy wasted time that could hurt my playing.
