- I’ve come back from another work trip which just about killed me physically (my fitness levels are not really compatible with the organisation I work for). But I learned a lot and what I learned I enjoyed a lot.
- I’ve managed to fit in lots of documentaries in our annual film festival. All of them were good – not one dud. And one of them I’m going to write about in more detail because it deserves it.
- My current guilty pleasure is listening to Duran Duran’s Rio. When I was 12-13 this band was my life. Then Seven and the Ragged Tiger came out and I began the question the quality of their music – could it be that much of it was actually rubbish? Since I’d always felt uncomfortable watching the Girls on Film video at that age it seemed right to start severing the ties. In retrospect I think the first 2 albums are quite good. But I’m glad I discovered Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Cure and The Smiths to take me through my teenage years (and beyond).

- The slow cooker has been busted out for its winter run and today I made a honey soy chicken. Delicious.
- I’ve been watching a few old movies lately and really enjoying them. So far I’ve watched A Touch of Evil, Now Voyager, Laura, and the Way We Were (ok, not so old comparatively). I’m about to watch Rosemary’s Baby!! Excellent!
- Next week I should be paying off my floating mortgage. This is not my whole mortgage, just a little chunk. But still it’s one debt less and that feels great.

- I made lemon curd yesterday and it was a huge success. Everything about it is exactly as it should be – colour, texture and taste. Because this is unusual for me I am stoked!!
- I had a stressful morning today. There were super cheap airfares going to Japan. I thought I might be able to pay for these using airpoints only to find I was 20 airpoints short. Ok, maybe I’ll just go anyway, I thought. It felt incredibly impulsive which unnerved me. I actually almost booked twice, and had to be talked out of it by my dad (who I rang to be the voice of reason – he performed this task almost too well).
- I had my favourite noodle dish, chicken kway teow, for lunch today.

- I’m reading Twilight at the moment. It is so badly written that I’m surprised it has the following it does. But I suppose the storyline is reasonably compelling. The movie must be better than the book surely.
- I had mee goreng with bbq pork for lunch today and it was delicious!!
- The White House’s Flickr stream – not only are there some amazing images but talk about great PR! One of my favourites is of the President stopping off for an unscheduled lunch at a fast food place. The looks on the faces of the people behind the counter are priceless. Check this out if you haven’t already.
- Our Prime Minister’s twitter page is boring, hokey and uninspiring in comparison. I’m not posting a link.
- Had excellent service from the tax department and am one step closer to getting my tax refund for this year. Should I save it or spend it? Maybe a bit of both… Yes I know I don’t actually have it yet but it pays to be prepared.

It’s been a great week but I am exhausted! I’ve been out and about more than usual and I’m paying the price now even though I had a great time.
- The De La Soul concert was awesome! I’ve been a fan for years so it was great to hear them sing some of my favourites. The one disconcerting part was at the end after they invited some of the girls in the audience to join them up on stage. One of the girls tried to mount one of the De La Souls. I know I wasn’t the only one who could only look on in horror because I heard other people commenting.
- I went to an osteopath for the first time ever today. I was warned I’ll feel like I’ve been hit by a truck and I do a bit, but I know I’m going to feel better in the long term. And she was really lovely and helpful.
- I’m continuing to enjoy my job a lot. I love the fact that I am constantly learning new facts. It is perfect for a trivia nerd like me.
- A friend from the UK who paid me a surprise visit on the weekend. We used to play a lot of tricks on each other and she got me good this time!

- For the first time in many years (maybe ever!) I am looking forward to winter. I don’t understand it and can’t explain it.
- Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey is my current song du jour.
- I turned my heater on for the first time tonight. While the warmth was welcome, the soaring power bill won’t be.
- I’m finding Twitter more and more interesting. For the most part the celebrities are pretty dull, but I’m enjoying checking out the online pages of museums and encyclopaedias that I wouldn’t normally. The political tweets are good too. I find that a lot of my friends who are signed on aren’t really engaging but most of the good ol’ 43ters who are used to updating know how to play the game:)

- A day full of happy news – 2 pregnant friends, 1 friend who has a job after being made redundant and 1 who has finally gained a promotion after several tries.
- Not feeling like such a webtard anymore. I’m starting to get the hang of this web publishing thing.
- I have solved one of the mysteries of my baking disasters – I use fan bake and I should be turning the temperature down 20 degrees when I do that. Now I need to work out the other stuff like why half the cake stays in the pan despite thorough spraying/greasing or why recipes taste bad despite following them to the letter.

- I really like the people at my (not-so) new job. I’m enjoying their company a lot. It’s so much better than the last one on all levels! I’m not used to seeing guys in their 50s with braided beards with beads in them though. That’s a new thing for me. I like it. I just need a reason to talk to him now even though he only sits 2 desks away…
- I worked out that I should get quite a decent tax refund this year. I don’t normally get one at all but I would’ve paid too much tax on my redundancy pay out last year. Which is what I thought at the time – when I actually needed the money.
- Have just caught up on American Idol. I’m not ashamed to say I like it. Okay, I like it a lot. I think Alison oozes talent and gets a bad rap from the judges because they have pre-determined the final 3. And the winner. But let’s face it, the pre-determined winner is just Freddy Mercury 2.0.

- Up there with one of the best nights ever – tonight my music quiz team had its first taste of victory. We weren’t expecting it. Didn’t even see it coming. We did well but no better than usual. But the other teams did worse. We won a $75 bar tab.
- I am planning my next baking adventure. This one is more ambitious. It’s a cake but one with a difference. In 2 weeks time I need to bring a cake to a morning tea at work. Now I work in heritage I’m going to make a risk and decorate one in the style of a Maori pa site. Check out the picture below. I’m thinking a chocolate cake with green mint icing. I’ll carve out terraces, use a flake bar for the palisades, and dessicated coconut for the shell midden. Bearing my previous baking skills in mind I’m a bit nervous but also excited.

- went to a history lecture today which was really interesting – this is a new area for me
- clock winding
- had dinner with an old friend that I hadn’t seen for a long time. We used to live in the same town. It was just like old times.
- turns out the guy I had coffee with last week has a girlfriend(?!). Weird. Anyway the reason I’m including in this list is because I’d written the idea off and apart from thinking that it was strange that he asked me (I guess now it was just as friends), I was fine when I found out. If I was more interested, I would’ve been a bit more disappointed about it and I didn’t care that much.
