Especially in the colder months. There’s nothing nicer than coming home to the smell of delicious warm food!

When I was 16 I over-indulged on several things that I have never touched since – rum, barley sugars (I saw the World Vision 40 Hour Famine as an opportunity for a 40 hour sugar binge!) and baked apples. I had to make baked apples for a home economics exam and so I practised at home. And practised. And practised. I can’t even remember how I did on the exam. All I remember is that I have never been able to touch a baked apple since.
But as Winter is drawing to an end, I decided that it would be nice to try a dessert and break the baked apple curse. It turned out very well and I can see that it would be a successful recipe for those inclined to try it but I’m sorry to say that I won’t be making them again any time soon. Or drinking rum or eating barley sugars.
Made with mince. Not that great. I talked about this with my mum and she told me that she’d tried this in the slow cooker once too and had come to the same conclusion.
I used cheaper fish. It was good. There’s no doubt about it. The slow cooker is my friend in a way that no other appliance will ever be able to match.
The meat fell off the bone. Meat does not cook more tenderly than in the slow cooker.
Now that I have so much spare time on my hands I seem to be cooking more. This recipe is barely cooking even for me. All I did was put a tiny chicken in the slow cooker and cover it with a honey, soy sauce (I used tamari), garlic and lemon juice mix. Then I took a lemon and slashed it a few times and stuffed it up the chicken along with some garlic and cooked it on low for 8 hours. It was so tender and delicious.
I don’t often eat sausages. But I made this just to see what it would be like. It was nice but I still don’t think I’ll eat sausages very often. The mashed potato that I served it on was really nice though and I think I’ll make that again.
I just thought I’d see if this would work. I don’t think it did. I cooked the pasta just a little too long…
LOVING the slow cooker! It results in pretty retro-chic food but it’s edible and relatively healthy. I felt quite “French country kitchen” as I served this up.
