get up the courage to visit my father's grave

I’ll be doing this in September. I’m excited and scared, but I think I’m ready.

I’ll be going there before I am schedueled for surgery. It’ll be on the anniversary of his death – July 6th.

I’m hoping D can go with me. He wasn’t a part of my life when my father passed away, but he has helped me through some hard patches since.

Now I have to prepare myself for this journey.

My father passed away in July of ‘06. I helped lay his ashes to rest in the family grave in Virginia. I have not been out there to visit it alone. I have been terrifed of breaking down. I know it’s something I need to do, and something I have to break through to keep moving through my grief. He was my biggest cheerleader, my best friend, and my hero. Losing all of that at once was almost too much to take.

When I was a baby, he brought me home a rubber elephant. He sorta looked like Horton from the book “Horton Hears A Who”. I still have it, and I’d like to leave it there graveside.
