Why end up on the shelf?

Since I left home when I was 17, I have been buying books from bookshops, charity shops, junk shops and car boot sales. I have now got books everywhere, about 90% non-fiction. It is wonderful to see them around the house, but I really need to start cataloguing them so I can see what I’ve got in my collection. Don’t know how to start, as it’s painfully slow work keying in all the titles and authors into the PC. Must be a better and easier way of doing it!
