I did it in 34 minutes! Would have been quicker, but it was bucketing down with rain and the park was a quagmire. I was first out of everyone in the company and really proud of myself! My shins hurt a bit, but they’ll be recovered by after the weekend when I get back into training – this time for a 5 miler!

I’ve got a cold trying to get at me, but I’m determined to do the Race For Life tomorrow. Think I might sign up for a 5 mile race after that, in July. That should give me another goal to work towards so that I don’t just go “phew, glad that’s over!” and ditch my training completely.
I put 5 names on my backpatch – my Nan, my Grandad, my friend Sam, and two names for my girlfriend. That’s 1 for each km!
Less than a week until I fulfil this ambition! I’ve got the Race For Life in Crawley.
I can now jog about 4.5km, so it should just be a case of squeezing out the extra half a k.
Fingers crossed!
I’ve been trying to train up for this and I can just about do 4km now. That’s about 40 minutes’ running for me, and that’s amazing considering I could barely run for 2 minutes when I first started getting fit. Of course, there’s a long way to go before I’m properly fit but Race For Life is in 2 weeks, so hopefully I won’t show myself up too much by being in terrible shape. I plan to run most of it if possible. My girlfriend is coming to watch, so I’d better not look too pathetic!
So if it isn’t here by 20th March, I’m going to have to start doing split-shift training – running in the park at lunchtime, and doing my workout in the morning or evening, depending on what shift I have (if any).
If it isn’t here in 2 weeks when I MUST start running training, I’m going to start going to the park at lunchtime to train. The 5K is being held there anyway, so it’ll be good practice. I just don’t really like running outside in this weather, it’s bloody cold.
I got my kit for the Race For Life today! I was meant to start 5K training on Monday, but typically, the treadmill in the work gym is bust. So instead I’m working on my aerobic exercise like cyclical trainer, rowing and stationary bike…going to try and do some walking at the weekend…and get ready for the heavy stuff.
The kit comes with a back panel on which you write the name of someone who has/has had cancer. I’m going to put the name of my Nan (my Dad’s mother). I’m sure she would be very proud. She died of cancer 20 years ago now, but she was the best grandmother ever and so much fun. It gives me more of an incentive knowing I will be running with her name on my back.
...while I’m getting over this cold. So it looks like Monday is going to be the start day – but that’s ok as I have got over 12 weeks to train in.
I got Sharon to ring up today and officially enter me for the 5K Race For Life. Also, another woman from IS dept is entering. So I’ve really gotta start training.
Still got the tail end of this cold, though, and felt a bit nasty today – not ready to train yet. Think it’s going to be Wednesday.
I’ve somehow agreed to do the Race For Life 5K in Crawley this May, so I’m going to have to train up now or I’ll look a right wazzock in front of the other women. Training probably starts tomorrow or wednesday (I’ve got the tail end of a cold at the moment.)
As a reward, once I’ve passed 5K in training, I’m going to buy myself a snazzy pair of those silky runnning shorts. I’ll probably look ridiculous but I’ve always wanted some and now I’m gonna buy ‘em.
