digitize my old photos & VHS

My hard drive finally went tits-up last week. I am putting it through its paces to see if I can bring it back to life. Thank god I backed everything up last week or I would have lost a lot of work.

The stack of pics on my desk is gradually reducing but it’s still massive. And I have about 3 more photo albums to scan. But it’s quite fun seeing all the hundreds of pics I’ve taken over the years, and the things I was doing.

Scanned off about 40 pics today. Unfortunately my hard drive is playing up, so I’ve got to back everything up ASAP and hope for the best…

I still have a stack of pics on my desk that need to be scanned, so I’m going to try and do a few a day. The scanner is very slow unfortunately. Or perhaps I could try scanning 3-6 photos each time in a big pic file and them cut them up later, that would speed things up a bit.

Backed up to disk everything I’ve done so far, which is one hell of a lot of pics. I’d be as mad as hell if my PC crashed and I lost the lot. I’m not even half way, but I’m making fantastic progress and have got rid of 3 really scratty old photo albums.

...but there are a LOT of pictures! I’m really pleased about digitising some of the older ones, for example the holiday I had in Lourdes in 1989 – my memories of those times are fading somewhat, and the pictures help to bring them back. Maybe one day my nephew or one of his kids will find my dusty old disk, open up the pics and…”My GOD, doesn’t Auntie G look YOUNG there?”...

Finally got my scanner up and running and am on this already. There are lots of photos to do, but once I’ve got them done and made a few backups, I can enjoy all my photos whenever I want, without the clutter.

Got the scanner up and running last night, so this weekend I hope to start on all the photos…

I’m fed upo with all the books of moldering old photos sitting on my bookshelves. They take up room that should be taken by books. I’m gonna digitise the lot and get rid of the old albums.
