Today marks the third time I’ve seen the episode of This American Life entitled The Cameraman. The episode focuses on sample documentary footage taken by G.J. Echternkamp, in which he films his parents over the course of a year or so. Beginning with no purpose or thought of continuity, the work becomes something amazing. In what is provided for the episode, you can really see how the scope of the work is widened as his presence narrows and his detachment widens.
I feel a constant burden with my life; I’ve never felt that things were good for me. I want to broaden my own lens and see what everyone sees as so great. Sure, I might miss out some, but apparently it wouldn’t be much different than the way things are today. I think it could be good.
