be section/co-section leader in marching band

Well, I got turned down my sophomore year…but I did get accepted a few months ago for my junior year (third year) of marching band. Now I get to keep the title of clarinet captain for two years! :-]

I handed in my essay on Friday along with my summer and fall schedules and approval signatures from the principal and the head of the fine arts department.

I’m a freshman in high school and we completed our marching band season (my first ever) in late october. I think I did pretty well for my first season and a few people are encouraging me to try out for clarinet captain for the next season. What I lack is self confidence. There is a junior in my section but I feel I’ll be able to handle the position. Any advice on how to boost my self confidence? What makes a good captain? Thanks.
