...I don’t find many people who even consider this an option, whether they are cat people or not. Even people who dislike cats say they don’t see why it should be done. I will continue to help others understand why this painful surgery is unecessary.

I worked as a vet tech for awhile. Most people who have this done to their pets don’t understand all that’s involved or they would choose another way. It is amputation of all digits at the 1st knuckle, not just the nail. It is comparable to sawing off a person’s fingertips between the knuckles with a scalpel blade.

If someone is so worried about scratching, a cat might not be a good idea. I don’t understand why some people who accept that puppies soil rugs during housebreaking are so shocked when a cat scratches something. Cats are intelligent and trainable animals. I have had cats all my life, and never had a scratching problem until the last little rascal. We had to get him a scratching post.

I have seen many surgeries, human and animal, and this is the only one where I walked out. Please, cat owners, do your research before making this decision!
