I feel that keeping my mails short and has worked nicely, the communication runs smother, i have also reinvented the phone somewhat in that i make more correct judgement of when a call is more accurat (more often than i used to think). Mail does save time but not always!
The new handling of mails has some effect on my time reporting. I used to rely on tracing a days work by checking the mail flood it no longer works so good. I will scribble down my activities during the day.
I have been able to keep my inbox from growing. It has made a difference to ensure that my new mails are consise and direct. That is keep them short and be clear with what i except of the reciever.
But in my ambition to keep he inbox clear I sometime tend to answer mails in part, and therefore having to return to them .
I will during this week focus on my answers and enforce that every outgoing answer is either complete or comments on each part of the original mail in some way.
I will take a couple of minutes in the morning before opening my email to prepare for the day, this will allow me to keep my priorities clearer.
I will evaluate the use of sending emails with delays.
I will only handle each email once. Keeping the inbox empty or at least not infested with rotting cadavers.
I will use text format. This will lessen the impulse to write long emails when an attachment or other means of communication is more correct.
I will start to use automated signature.
I will take time to proofread each mail and ensure that the subject is relevant.
I work in the it-industry and is experiencing information overload. I will search for ways to improve my email habits.
