Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Proteles is doing 41 things including…

watch less tv

12 cheers

Proteles has written 12 entries about this goal

still wasting time

Since about a month back i have less than 10 channels instead of 30 but still..

I will restart this goal again with trying to limit tv-intake mon-thu.

another week

Ill try to take a week without tv again now.

almost a week

did survive without tv until sunday evening when i did watch a couple of hours of pretty lame entertaiment.

Well last week didnt go well so im off the air for a week. csi is on right now but im not.

movie star

Mon-thu ok as I think. fri-sun watched a lot, I mostly watched a bunch of movies i hadnt planned during the weekend (most bad sequels like hills have eyes II, dracula II), i need to limit dvd intake also. I just cant enyoy/melt up to 10 movies a week.

I will watch max 4 movies at home this week. Murder by numbers and Bourne Identity on tv, and the Descent and/or Primer on rental I think.

I will watch max 5 hours of non-movie tv including online tv-clips/short movies. Most likely csi, csi miami, jordan calling and futurama or south park.

If I cannot follow theese generously set hours i’ll unplug the tv for the next week (the horror!)

not doing great with this

but im going to try one last time to cut back on the viewing before more drastic measurement is taken.

csi tonight, and then taping/watching the movies birthday girl, strange days and identity during the week.

Online tv-clips/short movies/music videos are also ok.
I might also rent flightplan or the vanishing.

until csi next monday.

momentary lapse

I spent the weekend working and trying to forget work by watching tv. fail. Did pick up the ugly habit of channel surfing until I fall asleep again yesterday, hope it was a freak accident

“One slip, and down the hole we fall
It seems to take no time at all
A momentary lapse of reason
That binds a life for life
A small regret, you won’t forget,
There’ll be no sleep in here tonight”
/Pink Floyd

I did almost ban tv-watching between 9-18 this weekend, just watched the os-final sweden-finland. But still have the habit on weekend evenings at home to have the tv on all evening while doing other stuff. Goto get rid off that habit. I will for the next weekend set a tv-schedule for allowed programs as i have been doing weekdays for a while.

Did watch CSI as always yesterday, I will record it next week instead of watching it directly to try to break the scheme, although i should find another prize for study night.

Will record the movie Das Experiment tonight. Might also record a new nbc comedy serie tomorrow night (My Name is Earl). Its 24 episodes. Just half an hour. But that still is 12 hours will keep that in mind when deciding if its worth following with regularity.

Have skipped tv as news media. Internet and radio is enough to alert if tv-coverage is of interest. I do check the headlines/cartoons and weather forecast in the morning and listen to one or two radio news broadcasts during the day. Also listen to a weekly radio newsshow in the weekend.

weekend warrior

I have for a couple of weeks been able to tame my consumption of tv mon-thu wich so far has been my goal. I will now charge at my earlier freezone, the weekend, and battle it out with spongebob, rocky, buffy, sabrina and other junk that to often drag my morning into midday and beyond. I will this weekend try to ban tv between 9-18.

limited edition

I did not watch any tv tue-thu last week

Mon-Thu this week I will only watch/record mondays csi episode and the movie code inconnu (Juliette Binoche) on tuesday.

Proteles has gotten 12 cheers on this goal.
