Despite the recent price rises from electricity suppliers we paid more in direct debits to the company than we used in electricity over the past 4 months. Winter has normally been a time of higher electricity bills for us as we stay in more (ie use computers, TV, DVD, etc) and use more lighting.
We have been trying to not leave lights, TV or computers on and turn the DVD off standby as we’ve found that used a large amount of electricity even when it’s ‘off’. We’ve also hardly used the tumble drier but haven’t completely cut this out.
I think we’ve made good progress here as if we hadn’t changed anything then we would owe the electricity company money not the other way around.
Our electricity all comes from a wind farm off the north coast of Wales and has done since it opened. I think we helped fund the wind farm through our electricity choice before it opened too. So we have slightly greener electricity and have used less of it.
