Have decided to take the job

I hope it’s the right one. I still have a couple of outstanding questions that need to be answered before I send in the signed contracts and other documents but these are fairly minor queries.

Start in 5 days time.

Received the contracts today

I haven’t signed them yet as I have a few unanswered questions or things I need confirmed but it seems fair.

My start date is set for Thurs 11th Jan. Less than a week away. Loads to do before I start – I expected to be out of work for weeks if not a couple of months so stored up things to do around the flat. Better get my skates on!

Been offered a job with a start date of next week

Only had 1 interview from 1 company and the job is mine.

Other companies are still dithering but although they’re in a better location they are bigger companies where I would be a smaller fish or at worst just a number.

I have a good feeling about this (met some very friendly people there who I clicked with) and with a longer (but not too long) commute I can get more reading done.

I’m trying to start towards the end of the week so I only have a few days there then the weekend to recover. It’s always tough at a new place of work and a shorter first week will make it easier for me.

I hope it is as good as it sounds.

Last day at work

I’m quite sad I’ve left. There are some lovely people there and I’m sure I’ll see them again (there’s quite an active ex-colleagues social scene). They gave me some lovely perfumes and a luxury silver atomiser – a good way to remember nice people.

I feel as though I don’t quite know what to do – I’ve loads to do at home but am not in the mood.

I’m looking forward to a few weeks off – even if I find something very quickly I’ll still take some time off for me.

Got an interview

It’s for a job I’d like but in a location I would prefer not to travel to – it’s an area away from all the contacts I’ve made in my industry and will take me an extra 30+ mins to travel each way.

I’ll be open minded and look forward to an interview. Who knows – it may be the right job for me and I’ll travel a little more for that (but not too far!)

Notice period extended

I was under no pressure but with no new job to go to I have agreed to extend my notice period as I am deemed essential to business! Redunant yes but not quite yet. A couple of more weeks pay will be good.

My idea of contracting didn’t come off as a few senior execs at companies in the UK were made ‘redundant’ received tax-free payoffs then contracted themselves out to their old company. The tax authorities would come down heavy on me so it’s not worth it.

This is a weird one

My company has made me redundant but has now realised that they need me for a few weeks more. LOL :)

I have done contracting in the past and still have my company so have offered to supply my services to them at a premium (but cheaper than they could get specialised temp cover from anywhere else).

Don’t know whether they’ll go for it – my boss is interested so see what happens. There are another couple of factors too so the decision won’t be solely based on me.

If it does happen then together with the redundancy pay I will have a reasonable financial cushion behind me for a while and the job search won’t be so desperate – I’ll find the right job not the first job.

Exam results holding up job market

I have exam results due out within the week and until they are out I’m not going to get any answers from companies – they’re all sitting on my cv waiting for results day to decide whether to take it further or not.

I wish it wasn’t like this – they’ve had my cv for a couple of weeks now.

Notice period starts now

I have a month to go. It’s a strange feeling but they’ve been quite (not very) generous with the redundancy package.

Lets hope that the other companies out there are interested in me. And sooner rather than later.

I would like to get a new job to start in mid Jan before I leave this one. I would get a break over xmas and the new year then.

Bought interview suit, shirt and shoes

I already had a good handbag for an interview.

I’m all set – just need to get the CV out so that interviews can come my way.
