Simply because I much prefer using a sewing machine, and no matter how neat and small my stitches, I still have to stitch everything twice (stitching once one way, then stitching back, in the gaps of the last stitches, so it appears you have one continuous line of stitches). Alternatively, I could do backstitch, which is slightly stronger. Argh, I just want a sewing machine!

I've cut out all the pieces 9 months ago

And I’ve stitched the two main pieces together but, as I recently found out the mini sewing machine I bought is a piece of crap, I am going to have to stitch it all by hand to begin with. Luckily, my hand stitches are quite small and neat (even if I do say so myself), but it’ll still take a while. I can’t afford a new proper sized, good machine yet. The cheapest I could get here is still over £100, and I can’t justify spending that much on a sewing machine yet. It’ll just have to wait.

I'm starting this week 10 months ago

Erik will be back at school, whilst I have another week to wait, so I am going to get started with this goal. I have a mini sewing machine, but it’s not as reliable as a proper one, so I will hand stitch everything first. I can’t wait until I can have a real sewing machine again!

I have a really cool pattern for it too! 10 months ago

I’ve never owned any kind of pattern before, but now I have an apron one, and one for a nice sling-type handbag. I am planning on making some aprons for people I know, and I hope that they come out okay, I was surprised to find I actually understood what to do with the patterns! :)
