For now, I give up  — 1 week ago

And only because I am moving to Sweden, so it’s not going to be possible to learn, or useful to have, either. But if I come back to live in the UK, I’ll get on it ;)

I don't know...  — 1 year ago

...when I’ll get on this, it’s not really going to used in the direction I will be going I think. I do still want to learn, but what with money being needed for other things, it may take a few years before I start this.

I saw a job for...  — 1 year ago

...an in-house BSL interpreter in my area, and I could’ve kicked myself. If only I’d got going with this goal, I could’ve been fulfilling two goals! Right now it’s down to money, and not having enough to fund doing an evening course. When I’m working and have passed my driving test though, just you try and stop me :)

Keeping it in mind  — 2 years ago

I won’t be able to start the proper course (Level 1, then on to Level 2) for at least a year yet, so I’ve started an introductory course that lasts five weeks, just to give me a foundation for when I do start. I had my first lesson last week, we learned finger spelling, our regional areas, professions, questions (where, why, who etc), methods of transport, places (bank, garage, cafe etc). Sounds like a lot to take in but it was really good, thoroughly enjoyed it :)

It's all about communication  — 3 years ago

This isn’t just something I want to do because I work with children (although I can’t deny how useful it’s going to be for that). I love being able to communicate with people, and as many as possible if I can. I don’t know why more people don’t learn sign language. Think how much easier you’re making it for deaf people who work with you. I’d definitely prioritise this over learning another spoken language.
