Pilot shot down over North Vietnam in 1967. He was a POW for several years in Hanoi. His remains weren’t sent home until 1985. I was given his POW bracelet two years ago. I wear it to remind myself that, regardless of the morality of this particular war, some people still exist that have enough courage and integrity to do what they think is right, regardless of the cost to themselves. This pilot died in the same tradition as those on the beaches of Normandy and the sands of Iwo Jima. I wasn’t even born when Major Frederick died, but someone should remember what he and other young men did in an attempt to serve the country they believed in.
