Why I specified

I could have joined one of the several existing goals on learning Portuguese. But I sought out this one because, well…She was from Brazil. And there are slight variations between Brazilian and the language of Portugal.

I don’t know enough about it yet (hence, it is a goal), but I would liken it to the difference between American English and the language of Great Britain.

I hope to learn someday whether this analogy is apt or not.

Emotion is a great motivator

I once had a crush on a Brazilian girl. She spoke fluent English, which inspired this desire in me to attempt to return the favor.

I missed my opportunity with her. But my motivation to fulfill this goal still stays with me.
