I’ve been trying to live this mantra. It has worked on some things, and not so well on others. For a handful of tasks, it has worked to curtail me from spending too much time on them. But not all the tasks. But I guess that is an improvement over before.
It has helped me to eat a little more healthier, which is an unexpected result, as I hadn’t previously thought about applying it to what I eat. But since I say it over and over to myself each day, it kind of had an effect on that, too.
I guess it is disappointing to date that it isn’t directly affecting the area that my friend challenged me on. But I will keep working at it, now that I’m just beginning to get used to this new mantra – less is more.

What I specifically mean by this interpretation of “less is more” is not the artistic movement. It’s not really the philosophical zen approach, per se.
My good friend James has challenged me to use this as my mantra to deal with some of my recent issues. It is actually a practical way of life that I must adopt on a day-to-day basis.
Those of you who get hung up on wanting to do something better, longer, faster-the-next-time, polished, over-rehearsed – in other words, perfectly – have an idea of what I’m talking about.
So I find myself saying in daily situations that I get myself into, “Hey, less is more.” And taking a deep breath. And another. And finally getting up. And moving on to the next thing.
[Self-talk: No more editing this entry. Deep breath. Deep breath. Pause. Elvis has left the building.]
