The day of the event. I haven’t been in the water post pregnancy. The only biking I’ve been doing (thanks to ice and snow) has been in the spinning class. My running SUCKS at this point. so, I need to work out a plan and go with it. The gym has daycare so I can leave the little guy there for an hour and 15 minutes at a time. I really want to do this. It’s only a sprint so I believe it is possible.

Any advice? I feel like I’m starting from zero!

Well, I'm putting this on hold 2 years ago

As much as I was looking forward to this…we now have a bundle of joy onthe way with an expected arrival of December 28th (give or take). Heavy training and bicycling when pregnant are not generally approved for high risk people like me.

I’m not removing it though! I think this will be a great reason to get back into shape after baby!

So, I did it.. 2 years ago

No! Not the actual tri! I signed up! I did take a look at the finishing times for the people who did it last year and the slow people (that would be me!) did it in just under two hours.

This will be a sprint tri. 1/3 mile swim, 9 mile bike and 2.4 mile run (ahem…jog/walk, I’m sure!). I wish they would have listed the splits so I would have some idea of times and stuff. Oh, well.

I’ve been spinning on a regular basis…ansd my spin instructor is telling me that if I can spin, I can ride, and that 9 miles won’t be easy but it won’t be harder than a 45 minute spinning class.

She’s also going to lend me a bike (her husband is a cyclist!)and work with me on doing some specific strength training. Did I mention that she is also my Water Aeorbics instructor and my cardio instructor and does the personal training thing outside of teaching classes at the gym? Dana is AWESOME!

At anyrate, I’m excited and scared. I don’t want to come in last, but most important is to finish! I want to say I did it…and I really want to like it!

June 10th is the day this year! So I have 58 days to get myself to where I need to be! I think I can, I think I can!

For now... 2 years ago

I’m starting with working on my running and swimming. I don’t have a bike yet…but I do a cardio class with spinning so I am using those muscles. Just not on a bike where I have to find my balance!

I plan on swimming twice a week and running twice a week for January and February. In March I will evaluate and see what my next step will be. Right now my swim training is in a pool since I don’t have access to an open water swim area. I do have open water swim experience…but I’ve never tried to enter the water with 200 other people at the same time!

I’ll add the bike in March or April and then concentrate on getting all together for June 9th!

Here’s to no injuries!

I've asked for the book 3 years ago

Slow Fat Triathlete for Christmas. I’m not fat, but I am slow!

I guess I have a lot of questions about how the whole process works…transitions and that kind of stuff.

I've been thinking about this for a while. 3 years ago

The Kansas City Corporate Challenge has a sprint Triathon event that involves 1/3 mile swim, a 9 mile bike, and a 2.4 mile run.

I’ve never been overly athletic. I do swim and I have just recently started running/jogging…and am up to a mile with out walking.

It’s a start! Now, I need to find a bike!
