Just signed up for the 8K race, October 7th. Hopefully this will force me to be more consistent with my running. Excited!

Went for a run on Tuesday. I intended to run a slow pace but found myself going at a pretty fast clip a couple of times. Something to be mindful of for next time… My ears were throbbing they were so cold from the wind- I need to find a toque, it is still winter. And I need running pants that have zip pockets for my keys & phone.

The good news is that my shins didn’t hurt. This was my first time running on the streets in my new shoes and they did the job! I was only mildly sore/stiff yesterday and today. I’ll try to go again tomorrow or Saturday morning. Pooch was very well behaved, didn’t pull the leash and found an abandoned ball that she brought home and then lost under the couch.

Life is going to be quite stressful for me in the next 6 weeks, I think it would be good to do some short runs at least once or twice a week to work out some of the tension. Right now I feel stagnant and inactive and out of shape, more so than I have ever before in my life. Lately even walking up the 2 flights of stairs leaves me out of breath and light-headed. I go to yoga but that is not cutting it, I need to sweat!
Now that the time has changed and we are getting more sunlight should be able to fit some runs in after work.

Had another workout yesterday; probably around 20 minutes of weights and lunges, 10 minutes of stretching, 10 minutes running on treadmill, 10 minutes on stationary bike, another 5 minutes of stretching, and then 40 minutes of hanky panky later on. My muscles don’t feel sore at all today, like I did last time. I guess maybe need to increase the weights, or maybe the stretching helped. Anyways, I had lots of energy yesterday and the exercise felt good.

I am so sore! It hurts to even walk… but it’s the good kind of hurt. I haven’t had a workout in so long but yesterday I did weights and worked some pretty weak muscles (plus had some gymnastic fun with my BF). ;)

I have yoga tonight so looking forward to stretching.

Boo! No runs this week. I am not impressed with myself.

I may try to fit one in when I go to my parent’s house this afternoon. There is a nice park next door. I’ll bring my running stuff just in case.

I managed to squeeze in a run with pooch Friday after work. I wanted to go to the lake to run but after driving halfway there I realised the sun was already starting to set and being a Friday evening there probably wouldn’t be many people around. I am too scared to run in the dark forest by myself, so I turned around and drove back home and ran along the street and through BH park and my neighbourhood.

It was good but I really need new shoes. I feel like my current shoes don’t have enough shock absorbency and my feet were slapping the ground way to hard. Also my ears were freezing cold and hurt so much! Agh! Worth it though.

Week 2 = no success. I haven’t been feeling very well this week so running was not an option. Hopefully in the coming week I’ll get my energy back and get some runs done. I would like to go to Beaver Lake with pooch and run a few kms. Maybe on the weekend.

Week 1 = success. My second run yesterday was not quite long enough but it was starting to get pretty dark and I ate too soon before leaving so I cut it a bit short. I think I will do my runs during the week after work. This is when I seem to have the most energy and it may be more light out, maybe not so much when the time changes. In any case, I have not run in a year and both times it has felt absolutely amazing and exhilarating.

And I need better running shoes.
