I’ve been doing a bit better with this lately. Not spending so much, really asking myself “do I need to spend money on this?” before purchasing something, and trying to use or re-use what I already have. I’ve been trying to eat at home more often, rather than eating out just because it’s more convenient and fun. And I’ve been keeping an eye on my gas spending and trying not to make long drives anywhere unless it’s really necessary. Last month I had a few extra expenses (property tax and insurance) but I also had a couple cheques come in which pretty much evened it out. For the first time ever I actually made a budget, just to see how much my monthly expenses are and how much I should be saving. It’s reasonable.

Blah… haven’t been doing very well with this. Again, I haven’t spent money on anything extravagant, just little things that add up. Well there is 5 more days left, I will do my best.
Usually I am pretty good with handling my money but I feel like I have been spending a little too much in the last month or two. Not on anything extravagant… just a lot of eating out, vet bill, birthday gift, Mother’s day gift, gardening stuff, extra strata fee payment, some clothes, car repair bill coming soon…
So I’m making a sub-goal here that I am only going to spend money on absolute necessities (food, utilities, gas [need to key an eye on that too]) from May 15th-June 15th. 1 month, starting today.
Another idea is that I should probably bump up my monthly RRSP contribution from the piddly amount it is right now. Going to add my tax return to that too.
