I can see again! 3 years ago

I had the surgery only 24 hours ago, and I can already see very, very well. It is awesome! The procedure only took about 15 minutes. Before that they had to measure my eyes again, and do several other tests, but it really didn’t take too long at all. During the procedure I had some trouble looking at the orange light they asked me to look at, but it was over before I knew it. I was really groggy from the Valium they had given me. I could see immediately afterwards, but it was kind of hazy. They told me to go home, take another Valium, and sleep for four hours. I woke up after two hours. I don’t remember if my husband woke me up or I woke up myself, but I know that I was in quite a bit of pain at that point. I was extrememly sensitive to light and I was freezing cold. I sat and ate my lunch with my eyes closed while wearing sunglasses. Then I took three advil, put some drops for pain in my eyes, and went back to bed. I manageed to go back to sleep for another four hours. When I woke up the pain was gone. I put in some other drops they gave me, made a trip to the bathroom and went back to bed for two more hours. Now I am fine. I was on the computer a lot last night and there is no way I could have used the computer with contacts or glasses before. I really recommend having this done. My husband had his consultation while I had my procedure done, and he found out that he is also a good candidate. I really hope he does it sometime next year. It is VERY liberating. I do recommend sleeping for the whole four hours after having it done. I think if I had done that, I probably wouldn’t have experienced pain at all. I am paying for the whole thing with my Flex Health Spending accout so all of the money will come out of my pay check each month before taxes.

Only one more week... 3 years ago

I am having the surgery done in one week! Yeah! I have been wearing glasses every single day for over a month now and I am SO sick of it. I am trying to think of creative ways to destroy my glasses. I was going to donate them, but they are broken and won’t fold shut. I wouldn’t wish them on anyone. I am SO thrilled about the idea of not having to wear glasses anymore or dealing with contact lenses. It will be my best Christmas present to myself. The good news is that many of the laser surgery offices in this area are offering $1000 off the surgery this time of year. So I’ve already called and I get to take advantage of that offer. I am so excited!

I am going to do it! 3 years ago

I have already had my consultation to see if I am a candidate for the surgery or not. The doctors have agreed that I would have excellent results. I am going to make an appointment to have the surgery during the last two weeks of December. It is a little more expensive than I imagined, but I think the results will be worth the cost. I am having more and more trouble with my contact lenses lately. I can only wear them a few hours per day before they really start bothering my eyes. It is driving me nuts! I am ready, willing, and able. Now all I have to do is set up the appointment, have it done, and pay for it all.

This is a major goal 3 years ago

I have been wearing glasses/contact lenses since I was in elementary school and I hate the fact that I need these devices to see well. I really only wear contact lenses these days, but I abuse them. They are extended wear disposable lenses, but I wear them a lot longer than I should. I also hate the fact that the brand I wear only comes in a tinted version. The tint is not supposed to change the color of the eye, but my eyes are such a light colored blue/green that the lenses remove any hint of green from my eye and actually darkens the blue. I want to be able to see with my own eyes and I want people to see my real eye color. I would LOVE to have laser eye surgery!

I have started a flex health spending account so by the end of the year, I will use whatever funds I have left over in that account towards laser eye surgery. That is my plan…
