get a job

I’ve been a teacher for thirty-plus years. I graduated with teacher’s certification in 1972. I quit teaching (primary and secondary)to study information systems and graduated in 2005, which got me entry to tertiary lecturing in business administration and computing. I’ve had part-time and casual work in accounting and office administration (in vacations and to fund my studies).
I lost my last lecturing job when I had a fall in 2007 October and broke my hip. I have had such a long and tedious recovery, with anxiety problems (caused by medication errors in hosptial) added in. I am only just at the stage of being able to walk without using a walking frame and can manage short distances walking without a cane.
My last employer had to find a releiver to finish the course papaers I was part way through teaching. But this year they have decided not to employ anyone extra to cover those papers, so existing staff have had the papers added to their workloads (and they’re not happy but can do nothing about it).
So effectively I have no job to go back to. I won’t be ready for work before the new academic year, but may have to look for office work, which is not my first choice.
So I will have to “upskill” on office administration – even though I know it ass-backwards, I will need a current qualification for gaining a job.
I may be able tosign up for online courses – but it will have to be a New Zealand provider, and free (as I have no income to spend on self improvement).
So task one will be to investigate online courses in office admin.
