I've got LED light in my pocket.

It doesn’t burn, and no it doesn’t mean I am happy to see you, but I am now carrying light in my pocket.

For Xmas I got a little gerber bottle opener + LED light for my key chain. Pretty slick.

My current EDC and ideas for improvements

My personal EDC philosophy of use:
For me, as a white collar office worker not looking to conceal carry, or survive the zombie apocalypse, I am primarily interested in enhancing what I already carry with a little extra preparedness and a bit more focus toward first aid. Also for my EDC to work I have to feel “naked” without the items. This means I must carry them on my person every time I set foot outside my house. The items must be small, comfortable, and get through airports in our day and age.
I am also a firm believer that the core of good self defense is: awareness, fitness, ability to bluster, bluff, outthink, and your general personal courage. These are easy to carry with you. You just have to cultivate them to have them be part of your EDC.

Current EDC:

an iPhone

key ring
—keys
utilikey
cross ion pen

wallet
—DL
—maybe cash
—debit/CC cards
—misc.

Notes About Current Items:

Utilikey-
In the post nine eleven world the only way to always carry a small knife and multi tool on your person is with this little guy. Go ahead and accuse me of being surreptitious, devious, or shady. I don’t care. I’m not one of the “bad guys” and I refuse to be without a small knife and screwdriver wherever I go. Sorry TSA. I’ll continue to slip this by you for as long as I can (10+ flights and counting).
The ability for this tool to be used to harm another human being is far less than the metal belt buckle I normally wear. The utilikey is serviceable enough to open/cut what is needed, and I’ve even used the screwdriver a time or two. I love it.

Ion pen-
A little spendy, but small, and easy to carry as your main key fob. This does look a little like a “pleasure device” but is quickly recognized as a pen when being used or examined closely. In the size versus use quotient this may be the first thing to go if I ever decide to ditch something. I have to say though it comes in handy now and then.

Possible Enhancements:

- Always have five $1 bills on me. It’s five bucks in emergency cash and it works at vending machines.

- A sany/wet-wipe to clean cuts, hands, whatever.

- 1 pair of latex gloves used for sanitation and protection from other peoples fluids or other environmental yuck.

- CPR rescue breathe barrier. Self explanatory. I need to also acquire the knowledge of how to do CPR.

- Sewing kit. I’m tired of being helpless when I lose a button on my shirt at work. Outside this it may serve some other small utility but is likely just personal for me.

- Some ultra thin light source to go into my wallet. I would consider a swiss card tool but that will not get past a TSA check. There are some other similar products about.

- A watch I like with whatever functions/utility. Self winding battery lasting for forever might be “must haves” for me. The core thing with this will be to ensure that it goes with just about everything I could wear and I truly love it.

- Laminated printed out card with medical symbol, my info, and emergency contact info. Keep behind my DL in wallet.

- iPhone should have local emergency numbers in it. Easy fix.
