I took regular boxing/bjj classes for 9 months this year, about 2 days per week. I’ve definitely learned a lot, but I don’t know that I’m actually a decent fighter because I’ve never sparred. I’m done with lessons for now, but will resume them in spring of 2010 or 2011. I want to be able to commit to 4 days per week for at least 6 months.

I’ve been taking boxing every Monday and MMA every Friday, and have only missed a few classes in the past 6 months. I’ve still got a long way to go before I’m as good as most of the people at my gym, but I do notice that I’m improving.
I think to get good I need to go more than twice per week though, which isn’t possible for me right now because I’m dedicating most of my energy to my triathlon goal. After the triathlon’s finished I’ll probably increase my classes at the gym to 3-4 per week.
I start boxing and bjj classes on Tuesday. My wife will take the boxing classes as well.
