become a better chess player

I have been playing my girl friend every now and then this summer and so far she has not beaten me. But since I am teaching her the game I am sure it is just a matter of time. But for now I am feeling good as I am undefeated by her. haha :)

I can remember watching people play in high school and thinking I want to play that game. It took a little while for me to actually start playing though. I had to wait until college to play a few games on a regular basis. Now my only opponent is the computer but it is still a fun way to play.

As far as thinking ahead I don’t do that much. I tend to play more on reaction and speed than slow and steady. It works well with the computer but I don’t know about other people. However I can say a bit of randomness can throw off the thinkers at least for a while. ;)
