Diving the reefs of the Red Sea was on of those things to do before you die items in a travel magazine I read. I’ve snorkeled in the waters of Oahu and off the La Jolla peninsula. I also SCUBA dived several times in the icy waters near the mouth of San Diego harbor and dove on a wreck off the coast of Delaware. I was never anyone’s favorite dive partner since I was a mite unsure of myself in those early dives.
Recently, we had made it up to the National Aquarium in Baltimore. That’s like going to a zoo – not quite the same as being up close and personal with the fishes.
Inspiration media found on this subject include the recently aired, “Under the Sea with Al Giddings” and a book my brother bought me when SCUBA was one of my main pursuits, Men Beneath the Sea, Man’s Conquest of the Underwater World by Hans Haas, one of the other pioneers of underwater photography.
If I ever decide to get licensed for a third time, I noticed there is a program available on the base where I work and a dive shop in the tourist town near ours.
