get married

Sometimes I wonder if men and women are truly meant to be married. They say marriage is an institution, but I don’t know if I’m ready to be institutionalized. Marriage in the legal term (i.e, a civil and financial obligation), is not as important as having a healthy, happy relationship, to me. Maybe I just like a way out when things go sour. It seems to me that once people become married, often times they stay in a bad relationship for other reasons; kids, finances, or just the fear of being alone. I know people who need to be married. They would rather have a bad relationship, than none at all. Its kind of like accepting the ultimate consolation prize. I think that very few people are really lucky enough to find that true love.
Sometimes I think that men and women are so diametrically opposed that its a constant struggle to make the relationship work. I think we want different things for for different reasons, yet go about them in the same way. They say men want sex, and women want love. I think with men, we tend to be more physical about our defintion of love where women tend to be more cerebral. Just a thought, but what the hell do I know?

I think I would like to try marraige at least once in my life if I could ever find that special person. It would have to be something extraordinary. But sometimes I wonder if that will ever happen for me. All the women I seem to meet wind up having serious issues. They seem nice at first, then after a while, their true, crazed dysfunctional side comes out. I would never want to be stuck in one of those loveless marraiges. I know so many people who are ‘trapped’ in marraige ‘because of the kids’. And I know many who are constantly waging the wars of trying to ‘make it work’. I have always had a belief that if you have to constantly ‘work’ at a relationship, I think you are in the wrong one.
