Well six weeks later the Danios are settled in well. More importantly I’m much better at keeping the tank – clean, regular water changes and regular feeding are all working to give me enjoyment from my little aquarium.
In fact, I’ve just added three sucking catfish in to help manage the algae and to create a bit more movement and colour (they are golden suckers…)
Perhaps once the anubias plant has recovered a bit I’ll get a photo up here to share.

Finally I got up some steam and cleaned out my little 28l aquarium which was heavy with green algae and had one zebra danio left.
Stripped the tank down, got rid of the sand from the gravel, rinsed the old gravel out and added some coarse gravel, scrubbed the glass clean and did a few big water changes to restart this starter tank.
That was a few weeks ago – now I’ve added two more danios so they can school a bit (and my survivor is looking much happier now.)
Still Learning!

http://www.techquarium.com/aquaria/ is a repository of information for building the ‘classic’ Macquaria, as well as great information on care and handling of acrylic sheets that are the best materials for these types of projects.

I joined this site today to capture my goal of building an aquarium like one I just saw on a wired blog (it was also dugg recently…)
This installation has multiple tanks and clear (presumably perspex) box tubes joining the tanks in different rooms! These tubes actually run at ceiling height and are an amazing sight.
Tanks joined by tubes!

Since I have two old iMacs waiting for their next existence (since both have blown screens) I was hoping to get together with J. who has said he’d like to help out on this job.
Now either the iMaquariums will get the geek treatment and have alarm clocks, iPod docks or full webservers built into them, or they will get linked together to form a double iMaquarium which would be a sight to behold.
Wish me luck (or hit me with a Cheers or two – that’s how it works here, right?) have an awesome aquarium.
