I managed to get up to hole No18 on this maze game.
You impressed?
Getting to just above 16 isn’t that hard once you ‘acquire the knack’.
Yes, I just leave the plastic covering on it

my dad showed me a really cool way to multiply a three figure number by another three figure number in your head. You get to write down the answer as you go along (which makes it easier).
It was quite a long and involved process, but amusing to see him come up with the answer straight from him head. Not sure I can remember the process in it’s entirety, but got the jist.
His father had taught him this little trick.
Nice
Bingo!!! yes! Done it.
8 to the power of 8.
I did this last stage in my head on the way back from brighton yesterday. Sitting on the train i started as the train roller out of the station. It really wasn’t that hard and I’m getting the hang of them now. Soon after I’d finished I looked at my watch and I had seriously completed the calculation within 5 mins.
Why it’s not so hard:
The 8 to the power of 7 answer had stuck in my head from yesterday (or day before.) So I just worked from there, so the sum was really:
2097152×8 = Y
I used my fingers on my right paw to remember the answer figures as I went along.
Bingo!
Now, slowly I’ll work through 7 to the power of 7…
Sitting quietly in the local woods’ playing field in the beautiful sun, I thought I’d give this one a try. 8 to the power of 7.
It’s really not as hard as it sounds, as I’d worked out the 8 to the power of 6 answer yesterday so could start from there. So the sum was really just: 262144×8 = Y
Managed it calmly with my eyes open looking around. Only concern was this hovering old woman nearby, the concern that she’d start chatting to me mid-calculation. The sum seriously didn’t take any longer than 5 mins.
Got to confess though, since yesterday I’ve started using my right hand. A finger allocated to each digit of the answer, to help recall the whole final answer at the end. So I’m now using my fingers as well as my head, so is that cheating?
I could so do with the help of my kitty’s paws to chew on while summing up.
Oh no. Now my head’s so excited with all these numbers buzzing around that I can’t sleep! The opposite to the desired effect was achieved. damn.
Anway, working out 8×8x8×8x8×8 sounds far harder than it really was. Remember I’d already worked out and remember the first 8 to power of 5. So really I only had start working from there, making it easier. So the sum was really: 32768×8
I had to work it out twice, as the first time i completed it i’d not taken enough time to remember the last digits worked out, so between working it out, remembering it and turning on the light to write it down, I’d forgotten the last 2 digits. Ha.
TO work it out really wasn’t so hard. I’d thoroughly rememebred the 32768, so used a finger on my left hand for each digit. On my right hand I used a finger for each digit of the answer as I worked it out. So I guess, accurately I used my head and fingers! ha. I only had to remember the number to be carried over, but that wasn’t really a problem as I could back-track and progress slowly. This helped with remembering the final answer to write it down properly when the light came on again (when I’d finished.)
Got it: 262144
side-tracked:
Instead of doing the 7×7x7×7, i got side-tracked and took the 8×8x8×8 from yesterday one power further.
Tonight I did 8×8x8×8x8 in my head.
Again it really did not take longer than a minute or two as I’d already done the first 8×8x8×8 yesterday, so started from there and just added the last x8.
Immediately after working it out, I turned on the light, wrote down my answer and checked with the calculator.
I’d got it right!
All these calculations gets the BlackKitty hot under her kitty-collar. ooo, meow
About a month ago I was in the pub chatting to a friend about how many possibilities there were with a PIN number. We tried to work out 9×9x9×9. (we’d forgotten the ‘0’.) I was with a few vodkas packed down, but surprised my goat by getting as far as working out 9×9x9 in my head.
Anyway, a couple of nights ago I couldn’t sleep so I decided to try work out 9×9x9×9 in my head. I did it too. I imagined writing on a green chalk board. It really wasn’t that hard as it was silent and calm.
Last night I then did 8×8x8×8. It was surprisingly easy as the last numbers were easy to recall and return to. Did seriously only take a couple of mins. Good for the concentration.
Left to do is 7×7x7×7 onwards…
yes, to get to sleep normal creatures would ‘fantasise’ about the BlackKitty, but emu’s do calculations in their heads for kicks.
