teach my baby sign language

I feel like I can check this off. Isak uses several signs regularly, and understands many more – plus he’s starting to talk now (which he’s excited about). I’m continuing to work on this still… but check.

Isak is definitely getting the hang of this. In the last 24 hours he’s started doing the signs for “more” and “milk”. His last request for milk was quite emphatic – a double fisted appeal.

I’ve been so excited to see him communicate like this! And it seemed to be all at once he got it and did both signs within hours of each other. He nailed how to play peek-a-boo with the blanket the same day too. It was as if he had a sudden comprehension spurt. Yay clever baby guy!!

We’ve been doing this for just over a month now. Several years ago I watched a documentary about babies learning to sign & found it quite remarkable. I had been very interested in doing this with Isak, and then last month our moms & babies group had a fantastic instructor come in to do a signing workshop. I’ve been teaching him several signs since then.

He’s starting to at least understand what I mean – when I sign for “milk” he bounces up & down and makes that grunty-laughie “they’re about to feed me” noise. I think I’ve seen him doing his own versions too – bumping his hands together for more, “milking the cow”? I’m not sure, but he’s definitely getting the idea.
