go horseback riding

But it wasn’t a nightmare at all, it was a wonderful, fantastically vivid dream that suddenly spun into lucidity. I did ride – through a snowy pear orchard and over an old fence into a forest; through a white field.

I could see our breath and smell her mane and feel the leather strap in my hand and the movement shift from trot to canter… even the soft sounds of wind and hooves going into snow. It was so wonderful and imprinted such a complete memory that I’m checking this off.

Sadly, one of my old friends with a horse (I went to her “horse warming party” in the early 90’s) recently told me her horse had passed away. I feel terrible for her – she loved that horse. I have several old pictures of me riding her. I had been wanting to ask her if we could plan a ride together. RIP Pimm. :(

I couldn’t sleep last night and went online looking for some trail riding, but most places I could find were either lessons, dude ranches, or really pricey overnight get aways. There were a few trail rides at about $50 a pop for an hour or so.

There must be a better way…

Well, almost. Almost. Michelle and Kristi (and Kristi’s new fella) picked Isak and I up and we all drove out to the Unicorn stables.

For several reasons we (with the exception of Michelle) couldn’t ride today, but we had a wonderful time hanging out at the barn, introducing Isak to his first real horses, and pettin’ the ponies.

It was great fun (even without being back in the saddle) and the plan is to head back when Michelle’s horses return (she was riding someone else’s). Closer and closer.

I just got an invitation to go riding tomorrow!! Michelle sent a message saying her & Kristi will pick me up at 4.

I don’t want to count my ponies before they’re hatched, but if someone can watch Isak tomorrow afternoon I might actually get to go!! I’m trying to reach Markus to see if he’s working. Oh I hope I hope…

A-ha! Michelle has a horse. She’s the woman with the stable ability. Stability. Kristi is going to see about us having a girls & horses day. We launched dreamily into plans of wine and bonfires… although this may take a while to gel, it’s a place to start.

I miss this

It’s been so long.
I used to ride. I used to show, years ago.
I’m hoping to find myself a horse for a little while sometime soon…
