Carve a pumpkin

After hitting store after store and finding not one single pumpkin (not even a crummy one), we had given up on carving anything for Halloween this year.

How great is Daddy? It may not be a pumpkin, but it certainly is festive.

Fun fun fun.

If I had another pumpkin, a sharper knife, and the time, I’d do a Fisher Price shape-sorter ball (with the star, triangle, cross, etc.). That was my original plan, but I like this guy… rough and traditional. I just jumped in there with a knife.

Oooooh I love the orange glow and the smell of candle toasted pumpkin in a dark room. Happy Halloween everyone!!

Had to hit a couple of places before we actually found a pumpkin, but got a nice one eventually.

Beautiful day – about 10 of us (a number of kids in tow too) went to Daniel’s and sat in the cool back yard sunshine disemboweling pumpkins and drinking tea. I managed to get ours cleaned out nicely but had to put the knife down in favor of baby entertainment, so it’ll need to be bestowed with a face tomorrow.

Saw a few folks I haven’t seen in years, and had a wonderful time. Afterwards we sat about talking and eating pizza and jalapeño poppers while children ran rampant circles around us. Great fun. If I haven’t said it enough times before, I love my brother.

We were going to hit the pumpkin patch on the way home yesterday, but by then it was too dark. We’re heading over to my brother’s place in a bit for some carvin’, so we’ll try to find something on the way.

Last night I dreamed I bought the last pumpkin (I should say “Last Pumpkin”, as it seemed to be some sort of lesser known archetype). It was lumpy, skinny, tall, grizzled, and had greenish blemishes and knots. I carved a scary old woman’s face into it and it was beautifully frightening.
