I’ve been working very hard on this. I got up early (after being up most of the night), made a pot of coffee, watched/read a few tutorials, and then dabbled & edited for another couple of hours before waking Isak up. I learned a number of new tricks and actually think that some of the things I put together while “playing” these last few days will be quite usable if polished.
I have the same sense that I did during the matting & framing class – really proud of some of the things I’ve done, like I can distance myself from the internal bitch critic and see things more objectively. It’s a great feeling.
I’m aiming to put together a square (7X7in), 80 page book, and I’d like to upload & order my first test copy midway through next month.

It’s a small step perhaps, but a definite step forward. A filthy amount of time has passed since I’ve made any movement towards this rather big (for me) goal, other than repeatedly saying that publishing my own book is something I’ve always wanted to do.
But what I wanted when I first added this goal (to put out a book of poetry) has changed a bit, so the goal is shifting as well. I’d like to put out a book of photos and writing (haiku?), and I’m now looking at using Blurb rather than lulu. Blurb is reputedly better for more graphic based publications. I loved the book Venus put out (of her luscious paintings & poetry) through them – it was very inspiring, and they seem to have done her work justice.
I want to stop talking out of my ass and move forward with this. I’ve gotten a huge amount of support from friends, family, and especially the people here (privately and through comments or cheers), which has made a big motivational difference, so thank-you. Some of you in particular.
I’ve been poking around people’s books for a while now, and today I actually opened an account with Blurb, downloaded the BookSmart program they use, and started playing. I fiddled for hours. It isn’t anything I’m planning on using, but it’s a start. A mock-up. I’m familiarizing myself with the software and shuffling through ideas and potential content, which is a very big start.
I’m aiming to have something out before the end of the year.
There. I said it. Pushing is welcome.
Love this idea. Love it.
I just completed my registration. Woot!
