Ever since I hooked up the high-speed, my only complaint is that my call display has been awol. At one point I called the phone company to ask them about it, but the woman I got on the phone was incredibly rude and kept insisting that I’d never had call display, which is crap, I still had the previous calls listed on my phone up until the day I hooked up the adsl. I should complain like I meant to… but that’s another story.
Today (after much trial and error) I figured it out. The little filter for the high-speed negates the signal for the call display. I checked out the website for the filter company & eventually found a little blurb on this and the filter I need.
I called my service provider & after a billion hours on hold (listening to “Flight of the Bumblebees” repeatedly), I got a nice tech guy who was really impressed that I’d done all the research on the issue & said he’d try to get a hold of one for me. I think they want to bill me though, and I think they should pay for it, since I’ve been the one paying for a service the filter they’d given me buggered up. I’ve been a good customer for close to 10 years, and I just think it would be a nice gesture, since I did all of the work for them.
I’m pleased that I figured out the problem & how to solve it, and hopefully it’ll be resolved soon.

Wonderful
Wonderful
Wonderful
Oh so worth it.
I’m now checking out a multitude of links that I saved rather than waiting 5 years to load. Beautiful. I can’t believe this took me so long. Begone, internet shame – let us never speak of this again. YAY!!!

Slowly but surely my high speediness edges closer…
Today (after calling and asking why I hadn’t heard from anyone and getting several sincere sorries because I apparently should have been contacted days ago) my modem was ready for pick-up, so off to hustleybustley downtown I went to fetch it.
And here it is.
Although honestly, I really don’t want to deal with hooking things up right now, so this will have wait a little bit longer.

on hold. So long in fact that my battery ran out. They finally sorted things out (or so they say). Things should be up and running sometime this week. We shall see.

Soooooooo… my current provider (uniserve) has a high-speed promotion on right now (free month, free modem, 2-months @ half price). This is a good thing, seeing as I wanted to switch anyhow, and staying with the same company will make things much easier.
After spending an overly long time checking out different companies (not one to be lured away by free crummy digital cameras) I’m going to stick with these guys. I called this evening and have ordered the fatwire 1.5.
My modem should be ready for pickup by this time next week. Woot! I can’t believe how long I’ve taken with this. It’s only going to cost me about $10 more than I’m paying for dial-up.
After I got off the phone with them, we finally ordered Markus a new cel phone. It’s ‘Get our tech up to spec’ Day!! Oooh I can’t wait. And it looks like I’ll be making my deadline.

If having this not only as a challenge but at the top of my list as well will shame me into actually moving my tuckus on it. I’m trying a free 30 day accelerated access trial, but don’t notice much of a difference.
I need the speed (and I need the phone free). I do. I have for a long time. So much time is wasted waiting for the dial up snails to move.
I need to get cracking on getting the laptop too – pull a double whammy here. And the pesky wireless set up. This is a big domino.

Today my dad came by for a few hours. We did lot of tech-talking, and some online research. I’m trying to figure out the best plan for me is.
We don’t have cable TV (Shaw) or a mainstream phone line (Telus), typical choices for high-speed. My phone company (Primus) offers a slower connection, so if I switch I get a better deal on speed, but would have to drop a $200 deposit.
Cable TV… well, another choice. It would make sense to bundle things up if I go with Shaw. If I get my laptop through Dell, I can get $400 off the price if I sign up with Telus, and I might look into voip as well… AGGGGHHHHHG!
THIS is why I haven’t done it yet. I get flustered with all the choices and decisions that effect other choices and decisions. I keep flaking out on pushing over the first domino that sets things in motion.
After researching things for quite some time, we escaped into the fresh air and took Isak for a walk around Trout Lake.
I’d really like to have this checked off by next month.

That this is even on my list. I mean… I’m a computer geek for crying out loud. This should have happened years ago. wtf. I put this at the bottom of my list hoping no one would notice it.
