What's new pussycat?  — 9 months ago

In the months since I switched her food, Kitty’s leaped and bounded into health and a youthfulness I’ve never seen in her before. She started spending most of her time outside, lost her pudge and gained muscle.

It’s quite incredible, considering her advanced age (13) and the fact that she was previously a less than energetic indoor cat. Even her personality has shifted – she’s more alert and playful, it’s bizarre. Wonderfully so.

Her peculiar spots have healed, her fur has grown in thick and soft, she’s friendlier than ever. For all of these reasons I haven’t felt a need to take her on a trip to the vet that I know she’ll hate.

I will indeed take her in at some point for a check-up, but I don’t feel there’s any push on this. Now I just need to convince her to come inside for the winter.

The initial consult is nearly $200. This is holistic homeopathic treatment rather than traditional, and is supposed to cost less in the long run, but – ouch. I’m digesting this. Hmmn… maybe if I skip that dental appointment?

The Roving Veternarian  — 1 year ago

Is a roving veternarian something like a cheshire cat?
I hope so.

I have called and left a message with her service, although it sounds like she’s booked up through the week.

Kitty’s been having her allergy problems again. I’ve been worried after the recent pet food scare, and want to have her checked out. There’s also a funky spot on her leg. It doesn’t seem to hurt her and seems to be healing nicely, but I want to make sure.

I went to Mark’s pet store and spoke with the fellow there (everyone there is amazing and has excellent advice), who said the company changed the old formula, so he recommended some different food (for older, slightly pudgy, mostly-indoor, allergy sensitive cats), which seems to be helping, her fur is softer & thicker and growing back in those trouble spots – she seems happier too.

He’s also given me the number of a new vet in the neighborhood. She does house calls (and charges much less, as she doesn’t require an office). I’ve since spoken to several other people who use her and love her, so I think I’ll give her a ring.
