Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

I am getting disheartened a bit with this goal.

March 25, 2012

Still working on G chord and trying out the D7 chord as it is easier on my fingers then the G. So far I am only up to 15 minutes. I hope to work up to working on it longer, but at this point in time, I am happy with at least 15 minutes.

I kind of wish, I had someone that could teach me and encourage me a bit more. I am getting a little bit downhearted about this goal. I think it is making me remember the “guy” too much and that is hard on my heart.

I don’t want to look back at the past right now. I am happy where I am at right now.

I hope to show the Cowboy what I can play soon.

March 24, 2012

I strummed a bit and worked on the G chord. I ended up talking to the Cowboy about playing guitar. He said that he is doing better at maneuvering between 3 chords now. I asked him what chords he could play. He said he could play G, C and D. I told him that I am struggling with G, but I can play D7 okay. I told him I haven’t been practicing as much as I should, but I am working toward it slowly, as I am working on other goals. He knows I am preparing for Script Frenzy in April.

I have to make an effort to do better, I want to show him what I am able to do the next time I see him, which I think will be March 31, 2012, if I can afford the gas.

Moving along slowly, but surely.

March 23, 2012

I played around with the G chord and looked for my guitar book with no success. I hope I find it soon.

I found some interesting lessons online (which I printed out) about learning Basic Guitar chords and Guitar scales. I will be reading these lessons over and over again, along with my music theory lessons to better understand how they go together.

Having issues with finger placement.

March 22, 2012

I had a pleasant little guitar session outdoors in the star light and street lights. After I got done doing some planting and learning some music theory, I drug out my guitar and worked on my G chord, which I was kind of struggling with. I tried D7 which seemed a little bit easier. If I remember correctly, the guy tried to teach me the A chord. It has been so long, I can’t remember. The hardest thing for me is knowing how to place the fingers on the fret. Ugh, it isn’t the more comfortable thing for me to figure out.

I need to find my book, so see if that will help me at all.

Anyway, I enjoyed sitting out on my deck, strumming my guitar and learning the chord as best as I could. It was a lovely little session, especially in this beautiful March weather that Ohio is having.

Strumming the G chord

March 21, 2012

I still haven’t found my book, but I am doing well with what I have found and learned online.

I played the G chord for about 15 minutes. I am working up to a half an hour. Right now I am working toward developing an routine.

Sad thing is it isn’t tuned, because the Cowboy has my tuner. I allowed him to borrow it along with my other guitar. LOL

I worked on the G chord.

March 20, 2012

I couldn’t find my guitar book still, which is kind of irritating me, because I need it!

I did print out some guitar chords from online. I found a couple 2 chord songs that seemed pretty easy. I saw one that I really loved. It was a song sang the the Kington Trio, which I love that group. The song was “Tom Dooley”. I remember singing that song with my mother when she played the group. Well, It plays Chord G and D7. The other song was one of my favorite Beatles song “Eleanor Rigby” which plays chords C and Em.

After searching for my guitar book for an half an hour, I spent 15 minutes playing the G chord. I felt really good about playing it until I remembered how the guy played it. He was so quick with his fingers and easily picked out songs he knew as well as wrote a couple with my guitar. He was very talented. I really enjoyed listening to him write a new song and pick it out on my guitar. It was very inspirational for me to watch him. Part of my heart misses him, as it is one of the few wonderful memories I have of him.

Sigh. . .

At least I played my guitar. It is a step forward.

I am still looking for my guitar book!

March 19, 2012

I went looking for my guitar book so I could start working on playing guitar. Chris (one of the Cowboy’s friends) taught me how to play the one finger boogie on my other guitar on March 3, 2012. He made it seem so easy and afterwards I tried it. It is hard!

I was kind of haphazardly looking for it while I was talking to my mother. I looked in all the places where I would have placed it. While I was looking for it, I found my Music Composition book, so I found one other thing I was hunting for! LOL.

I will print out some simple chords so that at least I can work on that until I find my guitar book.

I have to move forward if I want to finish this goal. I also want to learn something I can show the Cowboy that I learned the next time I see him.

I picked up my guitar this morning!

March 12, 2010

I know it sounds funny, but it is a start. I picked it up this moring and strummed it a little bit, while Mekong watched me. LOL

I am looking forward to working on my chords tonight.

TA DA! I asked Beloved how to do Chord A again

February 11, 2010

As I was doing dishes, I heard my Beloved strumming my guitar. I then remembered how I wanted him to show me how to do Chord A again. He didn’t show me, but told me how. I think I remember as it has been months since I picked up my guitar.

Tomorrow is the practice day for me. Practice day for Chord A for at least a half and hour.

I was going to start. . .

February 8, 2010

I was going to start, but cooking breakfast for my loved one, I burned my right thumb really bad (carrying a broiler rack of bacon from the toaster oven) that I held a ice pack most of the day. I was worried if it was going to blister or not.

It did not, but I don’t know if I should try playing so soon. I still have 2 small white spots and one big white spot on my thumb. It doesn’t hurt at the moment, but I don’t want to cause my thumb to blister or hurt more then it did on Sunday, that is for sure.

I will try to practice on Thursday, February 11, 2010, which is my birthday.
