knit a hat

I’m well into the decreasing stitches for the peak, just need to grab a quiet moment when Jag’s asleep to finish things off. Had a worrying moment the other night when I lost a knitting needle down the side of the couch! I had to turn the chair upside down and had one hand pushing up from underneath while the other fished from on top. Took ages but finally retrieved it :-)

I started on the new hat while we were on holidays. Rather than use the dark blue Zhivago, I picked up a lovely mixed green Zhivago Baby on one of my excursions to the Hervey Bay craft shops. It’s a lovely colour, should suit Jag to a T.

I’m using the circular needles, a little bit of a learning curve on these I think! It’s all going well though and looks a lot better than my first attempt. I’m over a third of the way into it now, just need a night or two in front of the TV to finish it off.

I went and picked up a ball of Paton’s Zhivago in the dark blue mixed colour. It looks lovely in the ball and I can’t wait to see how it knits up.

Pulled the BRAND NEW circular needles out of their little packet and one end literally fell apart in my hands. Not impressed, and it hasn’t come apart in such a way that it will go back together either – something has snapped.

Waiting until I’m in town next so I can take them back to the store – good thing I kept the receipt!

I’ve got the round needles and a matching set of four for the decreases in the point. Now I just need to purchase the wool. I was thinking of using Paton’s Zhivago this time, it knits up really nicely and the colour pattern looks great.

I’ve recently done this but wasn’t 100% happy with the results! I knitted a little green pixie hat on four needles (the first time I’d tried knitting on four needles), but there’s three “seam” lines in the finished hat. Everyone says they’re barely noticeable, but I know they’re there so I want to try another one – this time on a round needle :)
