So I go down to PennDOT to re-get my permit. And it never occurs to me to review the state residency requirements, because I have a state ID, and that must be good enough, right? Well, it’s not.
So I take the bus back home, grab some tax forms, and take the bus back to PennDOT. I sign in.
The guy at the counter asks, “Do you have your birth certificate?”
“No,” I say, “But I have the other forms of ID the form lists.” The form says you need your birth certificate OR two of the other things on the list.
“The was a change in the requirements. You need your birth certificate, too. You can still take the test, but I can’t issue your permit until we see the birth certificate.”
So I passed my permit test, but still don’t have my permit!
