Consider this:
- My aunt lives in Colorado. Last Christmas/New Years was the first time I had seen my aunt since just after Grandma (her and Mom’s mom) died in 2001, and the first time Mom had seen her since 2004.
- My brother hasn’t been home in the last four years, save for a week or so in the fall of 2007.
- I have been in college for the past four years, so I have split my time between here and Mount Pleasant.
- My dad has been taking care of Grandma (his mom) for much of the past several months. He’s been splitting most of his time between work and Grandma’s, coming home just a couple times a week.
So Mom’s been kind of lonely. When my aunt came to celebrate Christmas, New Year’s, and Mom’s birthday several months ago, I decided that I wanted to bring her back – and have my brother home!
I would love to help them both come home this Christmas, but they’re both unemployed. So not only do they not have money, but if they do get steady work before the end of 2009, I don’t know if it would look good for them to take a couple weeks off so soon after beginning their new jobs. So I am hoping for next year.
I graduate next spring. Hopefully – hopefully – I will have a job and be able to cover part of the cost of their visit.
Fingers are crossed!
