Some progress

My left thumb has healed-up nicely and I haven’t had the urge to pick at it for quite some time, but still keep the right one reserved for awkward and stressful situations. Things are certainly looking better than they were last term, at least.

Picking the skin around my thumbs when I'm worried or upset

It’s a terrible habit I’ve had for practically as long as I remember, since I was about two or three years old. I know it’s most likely stress related, and I’ve had rare periods during which I’ve managed to quit doing it, but it’s mostly a subconscious thing and very difficult for me to control. I think the longest time I went without picking at my thumbs was during my student exchange in Poland, but two weeks before my flight back to Canada this August, I started doing it again and now I can’t stop. It looks awful and I always feel embarrassed having my hands in eyesight when I’m around other people. I’ve tried Band-Aids and gloves, but I usually end up picking off the Band-Aids and can’t really wear gloves all the time because it just makes handling daily tasks more difficult.
